"Prelude to Cush" is a new book by L. James Bolin which documents his short stories and poetry that was inspired by a new novel written by himself entitled: "Cush Soverernity: Black Righteousness". George Carlin, Richard Pryor, and even Rudy Ray Moore were off limit material he would listen to as a child that got his young mind thinking about his surroundings. He didn't understand everything they were saying but, as life went on he figured it out. He started to express everything he had learned and experienced between the ages of 15 to 54. All of these poems are not his personal experiences and he's not a psychologist but he's a good listener and always found himself listening to people's problems and giving them the best advice he knew how to give. If you find something contradictory in his writings it'll show something he thought versus something he learned. That being said, reading his poetry and short stories, you can probably figure out his age in the circumstances in which the material was written. These stories and poems express the emotions he felt over the years living in a "Not So Perfect World." Military travels as a youth made friendship nearly impossible because he met many just to be torn apart by another destination. He became a loner as well as an observer, who would listen to his elders whether they were talking to him or not. He was introduced to music at an early age and these lyrics caught his attention as well. His best friends became music, his brother, and sisters. He dealt with many conflicts in life from people trying to convince him to be a certain way. This was a major stepping stone in his life for he was never a follower. He would examine the information given to him like most people use a sifter and throw the lies away. However, he did listen to knowledge and reason. He always said, "Time Will Tell," because honestly, it does. Lies have a life expectancy but the truth is Forever. Thirty-nine years he expressed himself. He placed his works in three categories: African Pride and Pain, Love, and Sex, and Spirituality. African Pride and Pain express his emotions of racism and all the side effects that come with it. He lived most of his life in the south so therefore, he felt compelled to write about. Love and Sex express his feelings of love, friendship, and betrayal. He reaches back and sees the abuse of some of the women he loved fall victim to brutal words and physical pain. He tried to understand why someone would do damage to another whom they say they loved. Lastly, Spirituality is a collection of heartfelt emotions of the many people he has met who worshipped people, places, and things. Spirituality was introduced to him at an early age in El Paso, Texas by an influential and beautiful lady named Ms. Florida Williams. Years later in Shreveport, Louisiana he found the same spirit in Dr. Rabbi Eveyln Khelama of Crusade for Christ Full Gospel Deliverance Center in Shreveport, Louisiana. No way is he confessing to being perfect but he illustrates his goal to be a better person and hopes it can be felt in the material within these pages.
