Me Against Him: Freedom or Death

I struggled with freedom my whole life. I mean, I caught my first charge in 1996 while I was in JHS at the age of 14. Twenty-five years later, I am still struggling with my freedom because I am currently serving a 7-year term in federal prison after doing two different state bids. Why can't I stay home and enjoy my freedom? That's the question that I ask myself over and over. I realized that I'm institutionalized, and I'm learning after being in and out of prison for the majority of my life that I am somebody. I had to endure hardships and, throughout my journey, trying to find a better way to live my life, and I found myself going back to the same things that led me to my incarceration. I always procrastinated, and I always had an excuse for something. Sad to say, but being where I am today, I'm happy I came to federal prison because I found a part of me that I have been searching for. I've earned my GED after trying for years to get it. I finally studied, and the hard work paid off. I spent six months in the hole, and that time being locked down 24/7 challenged my way of thinking.
