There is Robert Smith, or Bobby, who Teddy considers to be purposeless in life. On the other hand, Alric, with whom he had grown up, lives and works in Jamaica, and appears to be doing well. They would visit a pub where a group from Jamaica named Honey, would be singing. Karen, a prominent member of the group "connects" with Teddy. The two of them will play prominent roles in the novel.
